Purpose: We believe marketing is vital to realising our goal of giving free capoeira to under-privileged children around the world.  We need massive support from potential sponsors, NGOs, and the capoeira community, your role is to convince them to support us.

Commitment: Minimum 6 months – part time/ up to 4 days/week

Overview Capoeira4Refugees

Capoeira4Refugees works with refugee communities and particularly traumatised children and youth using the Brazilian art/sport of capoeira to bring psychosocial benefits such as increased self-respect and reduced levels of violence. Capoeira4Refugees was founded in 2007 working with street children in Syria (where it still has projects).  C4R has been active in the West Bank, Palestine, since 2011 and in Jordan since 2014.

Role Overview

C4R is an exciting position of growth and the work and story of Capoeira4Refugees are very compelling and marketable, combined with our team and voluntary support; there is the potential to be a fantastic success.  This is three in one role – the primary role of this post is to increase funding and visibility for C4R. It’s your job to deliver workable ideas to hit the dreaded targets and then turn it into a reality. You’ll work hard and involve all aspects of marketing and communications, including: planning; design, advertising; promotion; public/social-/media relations and development of the C4R brand. This role requires a motivated and organised person who can identify the key messages and channels that will connect with our audiences. You will need a broad understanding, experience and skills of marketing.

The role will contribute to the C4R brand being disseminated widely, and ensure that press outputs are appropriate for the wide range of audiences the C4R interacts with regularly.

You will work closely with the your line manager who heads up the Marketing/Communication team but also with monitoring and evaluation team,  as well as other staff members as necessary.  You will be expected to delegate tasks and manage tight deadlines, as part of meeting fundraising targets.

Main Responsibilities

  •   Assist to hit the set goals
  •   Assist in creating and project managing a motivated team of (Volunteer) supporters across different marketing functions to  help to achieve the set goals
  •   Assist in maintaining and managing (new) relationships, be strategic and proactive in social media channels
  •   Support with other related tasks as necessary
  •   Maintain and create/developed Website and general communications materials in support of fundraising aims (Newsletters / support Fundraising team with strategic Social Media support)
  •   Raise the overall visibility of C4R in media and social media, ensure branding guidelines be glued
  •   Attend networking events and meetings
  •   Assist in prepare reports and give presentations on progress to the senior leadership team

To strategize and develop event awareness, generate interest and serve as a communication platform to the general public (capoeristas and non-capoeristas) regarding the Capoeira Projects with Social objectives

Role Overview

The Researcher and Community Manager will gather data on capoeira social projects, for publication on the C4R research hub.  As part of the role you will draw on your own network with the capoeira community to create relationships with the groups, and create and maintain a network (using tools such as Facebook). You will create original content to be published on the website (drawing also on original research and materials created by C4R as part of its programming).  You will also source and collate research on capoeira that would be useful for the capoeira community, and as part of creating a database of capoeira social project resources.  You will be expected to create a strategy, including targets and timelines, as part of the role.

 

The Research and Community Manager is a highly motivated individual with experience and a passion for social media and proven knowledge in the art of creating relevant posts, blogging and online participation with the aim of creating awareness of Capoeira and encourage participation. Capoeira4Refugees is looking for an individual who has an understanding of capoeira and sports and development and how to promote the event for people within as well as outside of the field of capoeira. The target market consists of individuals with a range of different experience, age and interest which requires a cultural sensitivity and innovative thinking.

Main Responsibilities

  • Research and engage with Social Capoeira Projects/groups
  • Demonstrate ability to map out strategy and a proactive process / foresee possible threats
  •   Create a strategy for developing the research hub including a communications strategy
  •   Expand the C4R database of social capoeira projects targeting at least 100
  •   Develop relationships with at least 50% of the listed projects on the database
  •   Create an active network for resource and information sharing (such as volunteer opportunities, batizados, events, fundraising projects)
  •   Create Q&A sheet for relevant scenarios / feedbacks for Capoeira groups/individuals
  •   Create online sign up forms and automated processes so relevant content can be captured
  •   Create, and manage all published content (images, video and written).
  •   Develop and expand community and/or blogger outreach efforts.
  •   Oversee design (ie: Facebook Timeline cover, profile pic, thumbnails, ads, landing pages, Twitter profile, and blog)
  •   Design, create and manage promotions and Social ad campaigns templates.
  •   Update Website with the findings, communicate back to the individuals/groups
  •   Compile report for management showing results (ROI).
  • Create a database of capoeira social projects
  • Contact project leaders, build a relationship, detail the project on the database.  Maintain an active relationship with the projects listed on the database, including through information sharing, setting up a facebook group (and managing the group through creating and sharing of content).

  • Create and mobilise an online community that has a shared passion for supporting capoeira social projects. This will include having a communications strategy in place,  including objectives and targets.

Purpose: To provide support to vulnerable young refugees using social capoeira; and to identify and support talented youth to become assistant trainers so that they can support their own communities

Overview of Capoeira4Refugees

Capoeira4Refugees (C4R) is not a capoeira school. C4R is a social organisation that supports grassroots capoeira initiatives to help traumatised children and youth, particularly refugees.  C4R’s approach is respectful to all capoeira styles and traditions, and we do not follow any particular school.

 

Our goals include using principles of capoeira training, such as the development of confidence and self-respect, to produce positive social impacts, such as decreased levels of violence and aggression, improved mental health, better school performance and increased positive behavioural choices.

Role Overview

This is a hands on role, where the trainer must show initiative and be able to work closely with volunteers and partners to get the job done.  You will build strong relationships with your students to support them in benefitting from the capoeira classes.   Independent actions could include finding venues for training, advertising of classes, engaging volunteers, taking photos of the classes for marketing purposes (and editing the photos), using social media to manage and build a community, capture stories and information from the projects.  The success of the role will depend on your own resourcefulness, hard work, and inspiration.

 

Monitoring & Evaluation

The social capoeira trainer will receive a Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) training as well as ongoing M&E support.  As the main point of contact to the students, they will be expected to provide a range of essential material on the progress of classes and students.  This will include verbal feedback, class registers, stories of change, photos, films and short surveys.  Active observation, an inquisitive mind and relationship building will be vital in order to gather the necessary information.

 

Organising and advertising

You will be responsible for coordinating and implementing the project’s activities (also the implementation and development of a community class on the weekends/evenings). T This includes coordinating, and liaising with local organizations and communities. You will also organize and coordinate workshops, trainings and be an active advocate on social media tools to raise awareness.  You will be supported by the C4R in implementing these activities.

 

Main Responsibilities

  • Implement capoeira training sessions according to C4R’s guidelines
  • Attend training programmes as scheduled by the Programme Coordinator
  • Support other Capoeira Teachers in planning and implementing workshops, performances and events according to the programme goals and milestones.
  • Ensure that all relevant data required from each class, workshop or event is accurately recorded according to the C4R monitoring and evaluation guidelines

 

Person Specification

Essential

  • Self motivated, pro-active and full of initiative
  • Minimum of four years practising Capoeira and teaching experience (a big heart and the right spirit/attitude is as important)
  • Able to set-up and develop new classes
  • Professional in appearance and conduct and culturally sensitive (in and outside of working hours)
  • Able to remain calm in stressful situations (a personality that de-escalates stressful/tense situations))
  • Well travelled and ability to work in a politically and culturally complex environment
  • Basic level of spoken and written English with the drive to improve!

  • Fluent in English, Arabic and Portuguese
